Last night was great for us. We have been dealing with tedious recording/editing for the past few months, preparing material for the soundtrack to the indie film Fallen Angels. This material will eventually surface on a new release, a follow-up to our debut EP, which will also include remixes/reinterpretations and bonus tracks.
So we had an impromptu jam/rehearsal to freshen things up. Finally, all four of us in one room with the volume cranked to eleven! It felt like the good old times again. Like when we first started out.
The fourth I speak of is the newest member of BLACKBOMBS, recently renamed Stephen Chrisopher Black. He is a very talented guitarist. He has developed a new guitar technique for the band in which he plays with a steel butcher knife. Needless to say this also involves broken strings, blood and gnarly sounds like the ghost in the machine escaping from his amp. Dead rat Brooklyn poltergeist.
Defacto Obsolete is playing some real drums now, in addition to keyboard duties. He is like a small maniacal serial rapist. An evil clown in reverse blackface, beating the animal skins in sick voodoo orgasm. Keep the children away!
Together we are a modern terrorist manifestation of the New York Dolls on crack cocaine. Transmutate into gasoline. Were we human, inhuman?
Cornelius was in fine form last night. He is the fascist commander of our unit. I believe the line “accelerant fire fiend” to be autobiographical. A foul potion made of whiskey, lighter fluid, beer (and presumably someone’s piss as well) was forced down our throats. I am reminded of the climactic scene in Bram Stoker’s Dracula, in which the title character beats the hounds relentlessly, spurring them on through the Transylvanian blizzard to the brink of madness. There truly is no rest for the wicked!
We rocked out hard to “Forest Fire” and when I looked up, flames were climbing up the leg of Stephen’s pants. The band is starting to sound tight and completely refreshed. I am very excited to bring this new, improved and oil-infused Frankenstein wrecking ball to a live audience near you!
